MENS CLASSIC TRIPLES RESULTS

The Yarraville-Footscray Bowling Club staged its Mens Classic Triples on Sunday February 9th, and attracted players and teams from the following Clubs, Sunbury, Deer Park, Williamstown, Richmond Union, Melton, Webconna, Port Melboure & Gisborne as well Yarraville-Footscray members. This event was sponsored by Melbourne Aces this was the first time that they have been sponsors of this event and we hope that this will continue for many years ahead. The weather was excellent for the 4  games of 12 ends with all present enjoying a great day at the Club.  After the 4 games of bowls had been played we had the following results.

President Gerard  made the following presentations

Best 1st game winner Mike Baker, Gerard Walsh, Robert McLellan with 9 shots up.

Best 2nd game winner Peter Mckendrick, Ray Russell, Time Spratling with 16 shots up.

Best 3rd game winners Mike Galakos, Darren Pollock, Ray Gnijdic with 15 shots up.

We had no team win all 4 games, six teams finished with 3 wins, runners-up was decided on points with.

Brian Butler & team on 56 points.

Paul Murphy & team with 57 points.

David George & team with 58 points.

Joe Ghigo & team with 59 points.

Ray Russell with 60 points.

Runners-Up went to Jodey Roulston, Alan Dove & Wayne Roberts with 64 points.

Winners this year with 3 wins & one draw were Paul O’Farrell, Sam Boslem & Peter Clements.

 President Gerard thanked all players for coming along and making it a great day, and he hoped to see everyone back over the Easter 4 day carnival.  Special mention to Melbourne Aces for their great sponsorship of this event..

WEDNESDAY TRIPLES RESULTS

The Yarraville-Footscray Bowling Club played the seventh  round of the Wednesday Open 2 Bowl Triples on February 5th , this event is proudly sponsored by Nelson Bros. Once again 22 teams played the 2 games of 14 ends, which saw           players from Deer Park, Williamstown, Newport, Hoppers, Sunbury. Altona Sports  and Yarraville-Footscray               bowlers enjoy a great day.

After the two games had been completed we had 8 teams win both games with Kevin Brady & team on 33 points, Terry Vinton  & team on 35 points. Frank Dalton & team on 36 points. Peter Eastmure & team on 36 points. Fab Bari & team on 39 points. Ernie Jones & team on 40 points.

Runners-Up for the day went to Jim Doyle, Brian Butler & Barry Wallace with 41 points.  

Winners for the day were Alex Tecchio, Mike Galakos & Ray Lawerson with 42 points.  

Best second game winners were Heather Henderson, Jeff Newton & Ernie Jones 22 points.

SATURDAY OPEN PAIRS RESULTS

The Yarraville-Footscray Bowling Club held a Saturday Pennant Practice game last Saturday 18/1/20. The format for the day was Open 2x4x2 Pairs, it was  a perfect day for bowls with the weather great and the greens playing well  The event attracted 24 teams with some great fun had by all players from Yarraville-Footscray. After the 2 games of play only 4 teams had won both games with Judy & Graham Harrison on 34.5 points & 7 shots up. Helen & Terry Vinton also on 34.5 points & 9 shots up. Runners-Up also on 34.5 points & 19 shots up were Craig Guymer & Jim Dalrymple. The winners also on the same score of 34.5 points but with 26 shots up went to Roberts Paddle & Steve Sheaf.

Saturday Pennant will start again this week 25/1/20.

KEVYN BROWN OPEN FOURS RESULTS

Last Saturday 4th January  the Yarraville-Footscray Bowling Club held the Kevyn Brown Memorial Open Fours Day. This was the fourth time the Club has held this day to honour  long serving Life Member Kevyn Brown. President Gerard Walsh thanked the Brown family for sponsoring this tournament again this year and welcomed players from the following Clubs. Ferntree Gully, Deer Park, Strathmerton, Williamstown,  Altona, Werribee, Clayton, Sunbury, West Coburg, Drysdale, Point Cook, Benalla, Central Wenduree. Keilor as well many Yarraville-Footscray members.. The weather for the day started very warm, but that changed with a cool southerly wind  coming in around lunch time.  After the 4 games had been played, we had the following results.  Best 1st game winner went to Steve Sheaf & team. Best 2nd game winner went to Jim Dalrymple & team. Best 3rd game winner went to Joe Ghigo  & team. Best 4th game winners went to  Winston Brackley & team. No team was able to win all 4 games, the winners were decided on points with Runners-Up going to Des Blyss, Joe Allan, Dan Ellis & Gerard Walsh with 3 wins one draw & 56 points.  The winners also with 3 wins one draw & 61 points were Jame Pearce, Ben Thomason, Chris Ball & Nelson Ball.  President Gerard  thanked all people who attended the day and also the Brown family for their sponsorship, and hoped to see everyone back again next year for another great day.

The eleventh round of the Bowls Victoria Saturday Pennant Competition was played last Saturday  December 21st  with Yarraville-Footscray Bowling Club having a great day on the greens with 6  teams having wins, this now gives the club 5 teams in with a real chance of playing finals.

On Saturday our Premier Side played  at home against Mentone, in what was a very important game. Our team needed to have another victory and get themselves out of the relegation area. The team started very well and got out to a 20 shot lead early in the game. Mentone to their credit slowly clawed their way back into the game but our team went onto win 3 rinks and win the game 84 v 69. Garry Ball and team lost 16 v 22. Wayne Roberts & team won 24 v 18. Geoff Robinson & team won 23 v 16. The best rink was Victoria Brackley, Steve Sheaf, James Banks & Nelson Ball 21 v 13.

Side Two played away at Strathmore in what was always going to be a hard game to win. Our team needed another win to set themselves up for finals. They won 2 rinks and won the game 70 v 64 . Craig Guymer & team lost 16 v 20. Dan Ellis & team lost 16 v 19. Frank Dalton & team won 16 v 13. The best rink was Donna Hill, Mike Lake, Rob McLellan & Ray Lawerson 23 v 12.

The Third Side played at home against Keilor and they got back in great winning form, after they won all 4 rinks and won the game 110 v 78. This win will see them back in the top 4. Kevin Bradshaw & team won 26 v 13. Graham Harrison & team won 27 v 19. Ray Russell & team won 26 v 25, while Bill Phelan & team won 31 v 18.

Side Four played away against Sunshine VRI, and they had another great day on the green winning 2 rinks and won the game 77 v 62. This win will see them sitting on top spot of the ladder, Rod Baber & team lost 12 v 18. Mark Wellwood & team lost 15 v 20. Steve Brooks & team won 22 v 16. The best rink was Kevin Brady, Barrie Hahnel, Peter Eastmure & Wayne Hodges 28 v 9.

Side Five played away against St.Albans and they did not have the best of days on the green, they could only manage to win the one rink and went down 63 v 90. Dawn Buckingham & team lost 10 v 29. Graeme Ellis & team lost 17 v 20. Jodey  Roulston & team lost 15 v 22. The winning rink was Harry Glynn, Barbara Giles, David White & Pam Glynn 21 v 19.

Side Six played  away at Port Melbourne in what was going to be a hard game to win, our team played well all day winning 2 rinks  and won the game 84 v 77 , this win has them right in with a finals chance. Merv Davies & team lost 10 v 22. Chriz Ouzas 7 team lost 24 v 27. John Coulter & team won 23 v 15. The best rink was Len Harry, Graeme Hurcomb, Len Thomas & John Lacey 27 v 13.

The tenth  round of the Bowls Victoria Saturday Pennant Competition was played last Saturday  December 14th  with Yarraville-Footscray Bowling Club having a good day on the greens with 4 teams having wins, and it was very pleasing that our Premier team had its first win of the season.

On Saturday our Premier Side played  away at Caulfield Park it what was really a do or die game as both teams had struggled to win games. Our team started well and was in front for most of the game, they were able to win 2 rinks and win the game 77 v 67. With one more game this year before the Christmas break it is important to win the next game against Mentone. On Saturday Geoff Robinson & team lost 15 v 24. Nelson Ball & team lost 18 v 23. Gary Ball & team won 16 v 13. The best rink was Stuart McNeill, Paul Murphy, Alan Dove & Wayne Roberts 28 v 7.

Side Two played at home against Melton, and they had to have a good win in this game to set themselves up for a finals position.  Our team started well and had a great 100 v 50 win, they won 3 rinks. With one game to be played this year against Strathmore they are looking good for a finals position. On Saturday Frank Dalton & team lost 17 v 19. Craig Guymer & team won 21 v 14. Ray Lawerson & team won 29 v 8. The best rink was Gou Engebretsen, Paul Lucas, Will Ainger & Dan Ellis 33 v 9.

The Third Side played away at Melton, and they did not have the best of days on the green, they could only manage to win the one rink and lost the game 75 v 106. Jean Smith & team lost 18 v 40, Dale Reeves & team lost 12 v 20. Ray Russell & team lost 19 v 24. The winning rink was Wally Tomasino, Gerard Walsh, Mike Baker & Kevin Bradshaw 26 v 22.  Next week they will play at home against Keilor in a must win game.

Side Four played at home against Werribee and they got themselves back on the winning track 104 v 59, after winning 3 rinks, this win helps them stay in touch with a finals chance. Rod Baber & team lost 10 v 28. Steve Brooks & team won 28 v 11. Wayne Hodges & team won 30 v 13. The best rink was Fred Caruana, Phil Healy, Mark Wellwood & Pam Glynn 35 v 7. Next week they will play away at Sunshine VRI.

Side Five played at home against the top team Port Melbourne, and they lost the game 60 v 78, they did manage to win 2 rinks. Brian Butler & team lost 9 v 27. Dawn Buckingham & team lost 13 v 19. Jody Roulston & team won 18 v 17. The best rink was Pam Saville, Carmel Caruana, Ray Murphy & Graham Ellis 20 v 15. Next week they will play away at St Albans.

Side Six played  at Newport against Footscray Park , as Newport will host some of our home games due to our middle green being under renovation. They had a great day winning all 4 rinks and won the game  101 v 51. Chris Ouzas & team won 22 v 17. John Lacey & team won 21 v 12. John Coulter & team won 29 v 11, while  Merv Davies & team won 29 v 22. The win sets them up also for a finals position. Next week they will play away at Port Melbourne.

Side Seven played away at Aberfeldie, and they had a very close game all day, they lost this game by 1 shot 38 v 39. Jean Richings & team lost 19 v 23 while Ken Griffiths, Glen Deoki & Steve McMahon won 19 v 16. Next week they will play at home against Essendon.

Runners-Up for the day went to Heather Henderson, Robert Satori & Ernie Jones with 37 points & 11 shots up.

Winners for the day were Roberta Paddle, Maurie Bell & Steve Brooks with 40 points & 24 shots up.

Best second game winners were John Purdy, George Payne & John Slevison with 21 points & 18 shots up.

The ninth  round of the Bowls Victoria Saturday Pennant Competition was played last Saturday  December 7th  with Yarraville-Footscray Bowling Club having a good day on the greens with 4 teams having wins, the sad part is that the top team has yet to taste victory.

On Saturday our Premier Side played  away at Melbourne and our team was hoping to have it’s first win of the season after just going down in the past 2 games. Our side started very well and had an early lead, but Melbourne proved once again to be far too strong for our side, with a big finish from them. Our team won one rink and played a draw on another going down 78 v 81. Nelson Ball & team lost 12 v 23. Gary Ball & team lost 27 v 29. Geoff Robinson & team played a 18 all draw. The winning rink was Stuart Mcneill, Paul Murphy, Alan Dove & Wayne Roberts 21 v 11. In their next game they will play away at Caulfield park.

Side Two played at home against Werribee, and this team needed to have a win after going down in their past 2 games. Side Two played well all day and won all 4 rinks to win the game  97 v 68.  Dan Ellis & team won 21 v 18. Craig Guymer & team won 23 v 19. Frank Dalton & team won 27 v 15. The best rink was Donna Hill, Mike Lake, Robert Mclellan &  Ray Lawerson 26 v 10. In their next game they will play at home against Melton.

The Third Side played at home against Newport, and they also had to have a win after going down in their past 2 games. They also had a great day on the green winning all 4 rinks and won the game 89 v 64. Ray Russell & team won 19 v 15. Dale Reeves & team won 25 v 20. Kevin Bradshaw & team won 21 v 14. The best rink was Ross Homann, Robyn Barker, Dan Walker & Jean Smith 24 v 15. In their next game they will play at Melton.

The seventh  round of the Bowls Victoria Saturday Pennant Competition was played last Saturday  November 23rd  with Yarraville-Footscray Bowling Club having a good day on the greens with 4 teams having wins, the sad part is that the top team has yet to taste victory.

On Saturday our Premier Side played  at home against Deer Park, and our team was confident of doing well against a strong Deer Park Team.  The top side did not start well and were behind all day , they did however fight back to be only 4 down on the last end of play.  We could not score on the last end and lost the game 67 v 73. Geoff Robinson & team lost 9 v 22. Nelson Ball & team lost 16 v 20 Wayne Roberts & team drew 14/14. The best rink was Aaron Evans, Steve Sheaf, Winston Brackley & Gary Ball 28 v 17. Next week they will play at home against Bundoora.

Side Two played away at Deer Park in what was always going to be a very hard game to win. Our team did not have the best of days not winning a rink and going down 67 v 88. Ray Lawerson & team lost 15 v 26. Craig Guymer & team lost 19 v 23. Frank Dalton & team lost 18 v 21. The best rink was Alan Viney, Mike Lake, Matt Murphy & Gary Little 15 v 18. In their next game they will play away at Bacchus Marsh.

The Third Side played at home against Palm Lake, and this game was decided on the last bowl with Palm Lake winning 79 v 80, our team did win 2 rinks, but the loss has cost them top spot on the ladder. Dale Reeves & team lost 14 v 21. Ray Russell & team lost 15 v 20. Kevin Bradshaw & team won 20 v 19. The best rink was Ross Homann, Steve Smith, Donna Hill & Terry Vinton 30 v 20. In their next game they will play away at Broadmeadows.

Side Four played away at Laverton who were in top spot. Our team had a great day winning 3 rinks and won the game 78 v 67. Rod Baber & team lost 15 v 18. Jim Dalrymple & team won 21 v 17. Wayne Hodges & team won 17 v 16. The best rink was Peter McKendrick, Robyn Barker, Ross Hodges & Steve brooks 25 v 16,  In their next game they will play at home against Altona North.

Side Five played away at Palm Lake and they had a good day on the green winning the game 74 v 63, they won 2 rinks  and played a draw on another. Jody Roulston & team lost 19 v 22. Graham Ellis & team played a 16 all draw. Pam Glynn and team won 20 v 15. The best rink was Sara Murphy, Andrew Hewett, Michelle Velo & David White 19 v 10. In their next game they will play at home against Hoppers.

NORMA MASSEY DAY RESULTS

Once again the Yarraville-Footscray Bowling Club has staged the annual Norma Massey Memorial Day which was played on Sunday November 10th.  This is one of the biggest days in the Ladies Bowling calendar which is to honour one of the finest lady bowlers to have played the game of bowls. Norma played many years at the Yarraville-Footscray Club winning many major events throughout Melbourne, Australia and the world. The Club is very proud of its association with the Massey family and this day will continue for many years ahead. On Sunday President Nancy welcomed teams from the following clubs, Belmont, Burden Park, Deer Park, Donvale, Drouin, Edithvale, Essendon, Heathcote, Ivanhoe, Keilor, Maribrynong Park, Melton, Montmorency, Mulgrave Country Club, Newport, Palm Lake, Point Cook, The Avenue, Torquay, Werribee, White Hills, Williamstown as well Yarraville-Footscray members.

 Once again the Club provided a wonderful smorgasbord   lunch with all the trimmings which all present enjoyed.

After the 3 games of bowls had been played President Nancy announced the following results.

Best first game winner went to Sue Wouda & team from Palm Lake with 20 points .  Best second game winner went to Lyndie Borton & team from Craigeburn with 18 points.  Best third game winner went to Janet Brouwer from Point Cook with 18 points.

Runners-Up went to the team from Maribyrnong Park of C.Hunter, D.Marsh, D.Keane & L.Smith with 3 wins & 50 points..  The winners from Drouin were M.Leighton, J.Aubrey, M.Firth & S, Atkinson with 3 wins & 52 points.   President Nancy thanked all people who helped stage the day, special mention to the Sponsors of the day Nelson Bros from Williamstown, President Nancy made special mention to the Match Committee for of their long hours in arranging the day. And she hoped to see all bowlers back again next year for the Norma Massey Day.

On Saturday our Premier Side played  away at Essendon which is always a very hard venue to win at, the team started very well and had the lead for most of the match, the result of the game went down to the last bowl with our team going down 77 v 78. They only managed to win the one rink and yet nearly pinched the game. Wayne Roberts & team lost 17 v 18. Gary Ball & team lost 17 v 24, Geoff Robinson & team lost 18 v 21. The winning rink was Victoria Brackley, Dan Ellis, James Banks & Nelson Ball 25 v 15. In their next match they will play at home against Deer Park

Side Two played at home against Maribyrnong Park, and they continued on their winning way this time winning 3 rinks and won the game 83 v 60. Ray Lawerson & team lost 15 v 20. Frank Dalton & team won 21 v 18. Robert McLellan & team won 19 v 13. The best rink was Gou Engebretsen, Paul Lucas, Bill Phelan & Craig Guymer 28 v 9. Side Five played at home against Mt.Cottrell and they also had a good day  winning 3 rinks and won the game 86 v 79. The win has them in the race for a final position. WEDNESDAY TRIPLES RESULTS

The Yarraville-Footscray Bowling Club played the third round of the Wednesday Open 2 Bowl Triples on November 6th, this event is proudly sponsored by Nelson Bros. Once again 22 teams played the 2 games of 14 ends, which saw players from Deer Park, Williamstown, Newport, Hoppers, Moonee Valley, Sunbury. Altona Sports  and Yarraville-Footscray bowlers enjoy a great day.

After the two games had been completed we had 7 teams win both games with M.Baker  & team on 33 points, E.Jones & team on 36 points,  S.Smith  & team on 37 points,  B.Mummery  & team on 38 points,   F.Dalton & team on 38 points.

Runners-Up for the day went to Jim Doyle, Robyn Barker & Barrie Wallace with 40  points & 27 shots up.

Winners for the day were Mike Galakos, Alex Tecchio & Ray Lawerson with 40 points & 31 shots up.

Best second game winners were Val Kennedy, Carmel Caruana & Jean Smith with 23 points & 26 shots up.

SATURDAY PENNANT  RESULTS

The third round of the Bowls Victoria Saturday Pennant Competition was played last Saturday  October 19th  with Yarraville-Footscray Bowling Club having a mixed day of results on the green, with only 3 teams winning.

On Saturday our Premier Side played  at home against Clayton, our team was hoping to get its first win of the season against Clayton as in the past few games we have been able to play well against them. Sadly the day did not turn out well for our team, they could only manage to win one rink and lost the game 56 v 90. Wayne Roberts & team lost 11 v 31, Nelson Ball & team lost 7 v 26, Gary Ball & team lost 16 v 19. The winning rink was Mike Galakos. Nat Black, Andrew Myers & Geoff Robinson 22 v 14. Next week they will against the top team Altona.

Side Two played away against Hoppers and they had a great day on the green winning 3 rinks and won the game 87 v 61. Dan Ellis & team lost 13 v 21. Ray Lawerson & team won 19 v 18. Troy Kreyan & team won 24 v 9. The best rink was Sharon Fletcher, Will Ainger, Tim Spratling & Frank Dalton 31 v 13. Next week they will play at home against Altona.

The Third Side played at home against Rosamond and they continued on their great winning form and now sit in top spot on the ladder, they won 2 rinks and won 84 v 72. Ray Russell & team lost 14 v 23. Phil Stevens & team lost 16 v 20. Kevin Bradshaw & team won 22 v 15. The best rink was Kevin Brady, Leigh Henderson, Craig Matters & Gary Little 32 v 14. Next week they will play away at Williamstown.

Side Four played away at Aberfeldie CBC, and they suffered their first loss for the season, they could only manage to win one rink and play a draw on another going down 60 v 76. Mark Wellwood & team lost 12 v 23. Peter Eastmure & tem lost 6 v 24, Robert Yung & team played a 19 v 19 draw. The winning rink was Ross Homann, Judy Harrison, Cherrill Ogle & Edith Grinham 23 v 10. Next week they will play at home against Hoppers.

Side Five played away at Deer Park, and they did not have the best of days on the green, only able to win the one rink and went down 65 v 88. Brian Butler & team lost 5 v 26. Pam Glynn & team lost 14 v 25. Dawn Buckingham & team lost 18 v 20. The winning rink was Barry Hahnel, Phil Healy, David Sigle & Wayne Hodges 28 v 17. Next week they will play at home against Williamstown.

Side Six played away at Sunbury on their new under cover complex, and they also did not have the best of days only able to win one rink and went down 65 v 95. Chris Ouzas & team lost 12 v 25. June Alexander & team lost 17 v 26. Merv Davies 7 team lost 19 v 29. The winning rink was Len Harry, Glenn Deoki, Rosemary Cordy & Graham Ellis 17 v 15. Next week they will play at home against Laverton .

Side Seven played at home against Glenroy and they had another great day on the green winning both rinks and won the game 43 v 27. Dan Jolly & team won 19 v 14. The best rink was Ken Griffiths, Carol Clarke & Steve McMahon 24 v 13. Next week they will play away at Hoppers

The second round of the Bowls Victoria Saturday Pennant Competition was played last Saturday  October 12th  with Yarraville-Footscray  having  a good day on the greens with 4 of their teams winning on the weekend.

On Saturday our Premier Side played  away at Mentone in what is always a very hard surface to win on. This game started well for our club, with the game close for most  of the match. Mentone did prove to strong on the day winning 82 v 65. We did however win 2 rinks which will be very important. Wayne Roberts & team lost 11 v 26,  Nelson Ball & team lost 17 v 25. Geoff Robinson & team won 16 v 14. The best rink was Aaron Evans, Steve Sheaf, Winston Brackley & Garry Ball 21 v 17.  Next week they will play at home against Clayton, in a must win game.

Side Two played at home for the first time this season and they managed a 89 v 71 win against Strathmore, they managed to win 2 rinks. Dan Ellis & team lost 16 v 19, Ray Lawerson & team lost 14 v 21. Frank Dalton & team won 21 v 20. The win was set up by Dan Walker, Paul Lucas, Stuart McNeill & Troy Kreyan 38 v 11. Next week they will play away at Hoppers.

The Third Side played away at Keilor and they had another great win 102 v 75, they managed to win 3 rinks.  Gary Little and team lost 18 v 30. Ray Russell & team won 29 v 19. Craig Guymer & team won 26 v 13. The best rink was Alan Viney, Gerard Walsh, Mike Baker & Kevin Bradshaw 29 v 13. Next week they will play at home against Rosamond .

Side Four played at home for the first time this season againt Sunshine VRI, they managed a great 98 v 46 win, they also won 3 rinks. Rod Baber & team lost 14 v 22. Robert Yung & team won 23 v 7. Edith Grinham & team won 28 v 10. The best rink was Helen Vinton, Ray Murphy, Jim Dalrymple & Pam Glynn 33 v 7. Next week they will play away at Aberfeldie CBC

Side Five also played their first home game for the season against St.Albans, they won this game 90 v 86 after winning 2 rinks. Ray Eastmure & team lost 19 v 20. Brian Butler & team lost 18 v 28. Wayne Hodges & team won 27 v 22. The best team was Andrew Hewett, Julie Rowland, Ross Hodges & Mark Wellwood 26 v 16. Next week they will play away at Deer Park.

Side Six played at home against Port Melbourne, this was a close game all day but our team went down 74 v 82, they did manage to win 2 rinks. Merv Davies & team lost 15 v 27. June Alexander & team lost 20 v 21. John Lacey and team won 17 v 15. The best rink was Len Harry, Glenn Deoki, Rosemary Cordy & Graham Ellis 22 v 19. Next week they will play away at Sunbury.

The Bowls Victoria Midweek Pennant Competition played it’ second game last Tuesday October 8th.  Our Club was hoping for a better day on the greens after only winning the one match in round one, overall the Club had a brilliant day winning all 3 games this week.  

Side One played away at Deer Park, and they continued on their winning way beating Deer Park 69 v 42, they managed to win 2 rinks. Ray Russell and team lost 17 v 21. Edith Grinham and team won 18 v 16 in a low scoring game. The best winning rink was Kevin Brady, Alan Viney, Faye Simpson & Frank Dalton 34 v 5. Next week they will play at home against Maribynong Park

Side Two played at home against Palm Lake and they also had a great day on the green winning 2 rinks and won the game 68 v 36. Dawn Buckingham & team lost 15 v 22 Steve Brooks 7 team won 24 v 9. The best rink was Roberta Paddle, David White, Barbara Giles & Ray Eastmure they won 29 v 5. Next week they will play away at Altona.

Side Three also played at home and they had their first win of the season against Mt.Cottrell 77 v 46, with all 3 rinks winning. Thrish Thick & team won 24 v 19. Len Thomas & team won 21 v 10. The best rink was Nancy Oswald, Ken Griffiths, Jean Richings & June Alexander 32 v 17. Next week they will play away at Sunshine RSL.

The first round of the Bowls Victoria Saturday Pennant Competition was played last Saturday October 5th with Yarraville-Footscray having 7 teams playing this season. The Club was really hoping to start the season off with some great results. Over the winter months the Club has been able to attract 21 new members to the Club, so many new faces played their first game for the Club on Saturday.

On Saturday our Premier Side played at home against Caulfield Park/Alma, this was a very close game all day with the result being decided on the last end. Our team was able to win 3 rink but lost the game by 2 shots, this was a bitter way to start the year. Wayne Roberts & team lost 14/22. Nelson Ball & team won 17/16. Garry Ball & team won 16/14. The best rink was Mike Galakos, Nat Black, Andrew Myers & Geoff Robinson 20/17. Next week they will play away at Melton.

Side Two played away against Melton, and we saw another very close game going down to the last end, this also seen our team go down by 2 shots 73 v 75, we did manage to win 2 rinks with Frank Dalton & team winning 23 v 12 and Ray Lawerson & team winning 23 v 15. Troy Kreyan & team lost 11 v 25 while Dan Ellis & team lost 16 v 23. Next week they will play at home against Strathmore.

The Third Side played at home against Melton, this was a great result for the Club as this team won all 4 rinks and won the game 112 v 67.  Phil Stevens & team won 22 v 21. Bill Phelan & team won 24 v 20, Ray Russell and team won 25 v 17. The big win came from Alan Viney, Gerard Walsh, Mike Baker & Kevin Bradshaw 41 v 9. Next week they will play away against Keilor.

Side Four played away against Werribee, and they also had a great day on the green they managed to win all 4 rinks and won the game 108 v 44 Robert Yung & team won 27 v 9. Edith Grinham & team won 28 v 10. Rod Baber & team won 25 v 17. The best rink was Troy Phin, Helen Vinton, Jim Dalrymple & Garry Little 28 v 8. Next week they will play at home against Sunshine VRI.

Side Five played away at Port Melbourne and they did not have the best of days on the green, they did not win a rink and lost the game 58 v 125. Wayne Hodges & team lost 17 v 31, Dawn Buckingham & team lost 16 v 32, Ray Eastmure & team lost 13 v 34, Pam Glynn & team lost 12 v 23.  Next week they will play at home against St. Albans.

Side Six played away at Footscray Park and they started the season well winning 3 rinks and won the game 90 v 64.  John Lacey & team lost 19 v 21, Steve McMahon & team won 14 v 12, Jean Richings & team won 25 v 16. The best rink was Ron Williamson, Glenn Deoki, Rosemary Cordy & Graham Ellis 32 v 10. Next week they will play at home against Port Melbourne.

Side Seven played at home against Aberfeldie CBC and they started the season off with a good win, they managed to win one rink and play a draw on the other winning the game overall 38 v 32.  Next week they will play away at Essendon.

Side One played the first game at home against Palm Lake which proved to be a very close game all day, with the result going down to the last bowl. Yarraville-Footscray were 2 up playing the last end and were 3 down with a bowl to play. Edith Grinham was able to get second shot for our team to win by 1 shot 58 v 57. Scores were Edith Grinham & team 16 v 22, Ray Russell & team won 20 v 17, The best team was Kevin Brady, Alan Viney, Faye Simpson & Frank Dalton 22 v 18. Next week they will play away at Deer Park.

Side Two played away at Altona Sports and they did not have the best of days, they could not win a rink and lost the game 46 v 83.  Dawn Buckingham & team lost 13 v 30. Ray Eastmure & team lost 15 v 28.  The best rink was Fred Caruana, Nancy Oswald, John Harbottle & Stephen Brooks 18 v 25. Next week they will play at home against Palm Lake.

Side Three played away at Williamstown and they also had a bad day, they also could not win a rink and they lost 40 v 76.  Thrish Thick & team lost 11 v32, Len Thomas & team lost 17 v 26, The best rink was Carol Clarke, Don Mill, Jean Richings & June Alexander 12 v 18. . Runners-Up for the day went to John Purdy, John Sleviosn & George Payne with 37 points.

Winners for the day were Donna Hill, Mike Baker & Robert Sutherland with 39 points.

Best second game winners were Arthur Cassidy, Barry Naylor & Ray Ockwell with 20 points .
